Ever played system shock or SS2? They are previous games they have made that were popular. Lot of atmosphere.

And the soundtrack has really old people music too.

The player an anime kid driving a mech? no no
You are the guy with the gun. Tongue

One of the enemies is the Big Daddy (big guy in diving suit and drill for a hand) and he protects the little girl. If you try to harm either, the Big Daddy comes after you (hard to kill). If you don't disturb or make them feel threatened then they will ignore you.

Seems they started to use drugs and stuff to just improve life. Then they really started to go further and modify themselves. They are messed up people now. You can give yourself a shot and you can freeze things. Different abilities in the game like that.

Here is a gameplay video that gives you a good idea of how it will play out.
And a quick walk through.

Demo is on steam too. Good preview with some intro into the special powers and stuff.
Some insanely good scores. Hitting a 9.7 on metacritic so far. (Compared to 9.6 with HL2.)

Not as much run-and-gun. More strategy thinking with how to combat certain enemies and how A.I. will react and looking around finding resources to pick up. Huge on atmosphere.

Played a couple levels. Pretty fun switching between the plasmids and weapons. I'm playing on hard and it is pretty hard. I'm using a lot of resources and always short on that stuff.

When I get some more free time I will be picking this game up. Is there a multiplayer portion in the game or is it strictly strong in the single player?

Just a single player game.

Rootkit protection on retail version and demo. Steam ftw.

So, for those that have played it and possibly beat it....is this game recommended?

Awesome interview with Ken Levine (spoilers).

ATM I'm half way through it. Just been playing it a bit here and there. Been busy. I really enjoy it so far. I'm at Fort Frolic. Things seem to be getting even more interesting in this level.

The story is really good. If I said anything negative about the game it would be that there is almost too much atmosphere. hehe
You can almost piece together the story before the end if you pick up on the signs, recordings and other hints woven in there (i've read some spoilers). Easy to get a good idea of what happened before you arrived in Rapture anyway. If you like single player games that have a solid story then pick it up. Definitely one of those big SP titles that come every few years.

I've been playing on hard and it really is hard. Enemies have more health and I really noticed a resource crunch (ammo, evo for plasmids). Gotta really play smart then. Turn the enemies on each other or use telekinesis to pick up big objects for blocking bullets and throwing at enemies, use the right bullets for the right enemies (regular, armor piercing, antipersonnel). I hack all the turrets and security cameras/bots I can. They are a big help since they will then attack enemies and not you. Hacking vaults is tricky but usually worth it even if you mess up and get hurt.
I might need to go to medium to finish though.

It's really fun when a big daddy is in the area. They don't hurt you unless you make yourself a threat. But you can pit them against other bad guys. Gets the big daddies health down a bit too. Then you can take him out and get some Adam from the little sister. (You have to choose rescue, not harvest, with all the little sisters to get the 'good' ending.)
