Well generally LCD TVs have higher response times than Monitors (pixel color change being slower).

TV programs/Movies have motion blur built into the video in order to make the video look smooth @ 24-30 FPS.. Games on the PC are raw video with no blur to make low frame rates look smoother. (If blur is used it's for effect and not practical purposes)

My brother just picked up an Olevia 37" LCD (237T-T12) for ~ $400 at target. Their black friday sale. I guess the 237T is the OEM version of the 537H. Looks really good anyway from what I've seen so far. Just the right size. Not huge but still a nice improvement over the 32" CRT TV we had in it's place.

It detects 1080p when plugging in the PS3 but we don't need more than 720p since it is just a 37". Have yet to mess with any of the settings.

ooOOOoooo...nice deal on that one =)

I had my first serious run in with AV lag on my parents Samsung DLP =( Playing smass brothers/Wii sports with a good 1 second delay was tricky...

It that prevalent in most backlit DLP colorwheel type TVs? I have been eyeing this set for quite some time and wondering if the AV lag is there as well...

I just got a new HDTV.  A Mitsubishi 65" 1080p DLP HDTV.  The mart had a good deal on it on top of 2 years no interest.  I also picked up a 7.1 surround sound system to go along with it.  Currently I'm pretty happy with the set so far.  We didn't go 'all out' by purchasing a HDDVD player or Blue ray or anything like that yet though...I'm hoping at least one format will be picked over the other by the movie industry or at least a dual player is released eventually.

Cueball and I (mostly Cueball) hooked up everything last night and the Wii did have that 1 sec lag.  I searched online and they say some DLP sets have a 'game mode' format that will resolve that lag, but my set doesn't appear to have that.  The other solution said to upgrade the wii connection cable from the audio/video cables it came with the box to component cables.  I decided to tinker with the set and connections before purchasing any more over priced cables.  When the Wii was hooked up to the surround sound and then to the TV I had the lag but if it is hooked up directly to the TV (granted I'm running it through a switch first so to simplify all the game systems to one input so it's not 'directly' hooked up to the TV but I did bypass the surround sound system) I didn't have any lag at all (or at least I didn't notice any) while testing it out in a game of wii tennis.

What model DLP do they have?  From what I've read, most lag issues have been resolved in the DLP models released within the past year.  I have a 60" Samsumg HL-S6187W that I got in May 2006 and it works just fine with my PS2.  However, you have to go into the settings and basically tell it that the input is being used for a game console.  I have heard some issues with various sets having issues with the PS3 over HDMI, but those issues might have been resolved as well.  I would say, if you can wait until May, you can buy a pass to the Berkshire meeting on ebay for $5 and save yourself about $500 on a TV.

I was told to stay away from DLPs for that reason among others.  I got a Samsung LCD in September and I am extremely happy with it.  I don't have any lag or any other problems with it.  It looks awesome with my 360 and HD channels.

I think it becomes a matter of preference with where the technology stand today. Personally the spacing between the pixels bothers me on LCD and I think DLP provides better color, contrast and bang for your buck.  Either way, I think it's hard to pick a bad TV now.  If you haven't already done so, check out the AVS Forums.  They'll answer a lot of your concerns with different technologies and specific sets.
