the trailer for this film looked awesome.
the release date was perfect with the whole 9/9/9 bit.
one problem with that - this film is a joke.
to start, it's only 75 minutes.
the ending is vague but promising. so in the next hour of "what could have been" they decide to end it instead.
the visuals are awesome, credit where credit is due on that one.
but - the voice acting isn't all it could be.
the backstory on the whole apocalypse has been over used since the Matrix.
they could have shown more of humanity, but for some reason didn't.
the characters in the movie are revealed to be a scientist who divides his soul into 9 dolls.
ok, but what about the fact that he's a "scientist"? thus his magic method is to be questioned.
and since he's a guy, why is 1 part of his soul the ass kicking femme fatale character?
and as a scientist, why is another part a brainless moron who gets high by using a magnet?
why does the master machine brain need to get their souls? why not go back to building more machines and taking over the planet?
this film ultimately has plot holes big enough to fly a plane through.
and they all could have been solved, by overcoming the biggest flaw, making the film longer.
oh well.
don't get me wrong, it's a beautiful thing. but because of its problems, i say 6.5 smashies.

You know I finally watched this online about a week ago. I fully agree with afterthought.

It's what this movie could of been and what its not that makes me cry at one of my favorite writers/directors. It almost....almost looks like they wanted this movie to be more. But they wanted to release it more on 9/9/09 then they wanted to make a movie. Call it skepticism....but a part of me thinks there was more of this movie that didn't get made because of the release date, time constraints?

Biggest complaint. 9 dolls eh? So why did really only like 3 of them have anything or any real part in this movie.... 6 could of been soooo much more then just the crazy psycho mental guy they protrayed him to be. You know like that crazy cat lady that predicts the end of the world and no one believes until the day comes and we find out she was right? *Sigh*
