It looks interesting, not sure if I'm sold on it, they should put a demo out!

But wait, Gearbox did this game!   hrm.

Clap Trap alone almost makes this a must.

right now im debating the pre-purchase on steam.  i will probably get it by the time it comes out.  i am a fan of RPG's but usualy get bored before i finish.  so i think the FPS element along with co-op play will add a refreshing twist.

Bought and know several friends will be joining in. Sounds like it's quite addicting even with the negatives.

i bought it for the 360, since my computer is quite old and doesnt hold up well for the pc gaming now a days. I put about 8 hours into it so far and im definitely addicted. Very fun solo or with friends. Id definitely rate this a must buy. So many must buy games this season though... So far i have purchased Fifa 10, Borderlands, and Uncharted 2. Still to purchase will be Call of duty MW2, dragon age origins, demon souls and i think im forgetting one or two. This is the best time of the year.

Ok so I purchased this game last night and played the majority of the night. I have to say its incredibly addicting as well as entertaining. It started kinda slow but picked up the pace as you started to level up and understand the mechanics of the game. I have yet to play co-op at all mainly because I know noone who has this game and Im wary of playing it with random people.

So I am unsure of how obtaining items with others works. I figure it works in two ways. #1 Either when items drop they drop for everyone or #2 its a diablo 2 loot fest grab grab grab grab grab grab mine mine mine mine mine.

The monsters in the game scale up with your level except the ones in the starting areas. I found that kind of neat, although I think there is some sort of cap as to how far they scale up with you. Also I have read in co-op they scale up in difficulty with the more people in the game and also better items drop with more people in the game.

I want to try co-op bad with people I know, so please if you have this game catch me on steam and let me know if you want to play. Steam is always on and my PC is on 24/7 so you can leave me messages Smiley For those of you who may not have me on your friends list. Its ^*|LS|*^OPIE (no wai!) or check out the LS steam group list.

I am also unsure of how co-op works class wise. Like can there be 4 soldier classes in one game? Or does everyone have to pick 1 and there can be only 1 of each of the 4 classes in one single game?

All in all any FPS or RPG fan must get this game. It's well done and even the dialog I would say could almost be considered family friendly, but range the kiddies playing at least 12+ due to some crude comments.

Update!

So I attempted some online games. This is how it works. Depending on the host connection and location it will determine your lag which is noticeable due to bullet lag. You can learn to compensate though so its not a huge deal.

Looting...its the much feared Diablo 2 grab grab grab me me me me mine mine mine aspect. So word of advice, play with people you know and divide stuff out accordingly.

Actually connecting to someone! Right now there are port issues with borderlands. To actually play with someone the HOST needs to have the following ports open to be able to let people connect.

7777
28900
27900
28910
28902

Without those ports open the chances of being able to play together are slim to none.

Playing with people online! It does get much...much harder with 4 people in the game. So hard actually and I LOVE the challenge. You really have to build your character well and know exactly how to play your roll if you are going to succeed. Its a run and gun FPS with the added affect of strategy! If you do happen to die you don't die right away. You are given the chance to get a "second wind" by downing an enemy while you are bleeding out, you can't zoom in or aim down the sights of your gun and its harder to aim as well. If you do down an enemy you get a second wind and your shields are recharged fully but your health is low. However if you do in fact go through the entire process which is death "oh look hes not breathing anymore" you are simply respawned back at the last "NEW-U" station and a small fee is deducted from your wallet. If you don't kill an enemy during the bleed out phase but the fire fight ends your teammates can revive you for the same effect as downing an enemy would of been.

Thats about all for now.

got into an online game tonight with opie it was great.  (thanks for all the levels by the way)

the voice chat works great i think.

i would say that it is best to play with someone you know.  everyone goes to the location of the person who created the game and is doing their missions.  so opie was a big help him at level 20 caried me through some of the lower level missions.  we talked about starting new characters to just play online with that way we could go online together and not worry about getting so far ahead of someone who plays less.  it was great fun with opie but i think he was pulling me through much faster than i could have done it on my own.  there were times when i just had to tuck down and hide while he killed everyone.

great game though if it wasn't for work i would still be playing.

Ups and Downs:

So far in my 20 levels of experience I have seen many things I have liked about this game and some things I don't like or think they should tweak or add into the game. Consider this post a mini review of the game thus far.

Borderlands offers a wide range of weapons as advertised in their trailer for the game. There are literally bazillions of weapons ranging from pistols, revolvers, assault rifles, sub machine guns, rocket launchers and sniper rifles. Certain classes are more proficient with certain weapons then others. The added effects of weapons that do different things then others is a bonus. You may find a SMG that does lower damage but has the ability to cause its bullets to blow up, or cause DoT incendiary damage. Different weapons although of the same class I.E. two different SMG's could have different sized magazines and different rates of fire which does make a big difference not only in play style but in a sense accuracy as well. High rate of fire is not always best but yet there are situations where you are being swarmed where it would be best. So the options are limit less and in a way if you are playing on the PC, developers have to make the game playable for hundreds of different systems and they kind of made the game playable for hundreds of different play styles with all of the little weapon differences regarding, rate of fire, accuracy and added bullet effects. This is definitely a plus.

There is also a small amount of gear! We're not talking armor but modifications and addons. I can safely say that Borderlands is like the Fallout 3 with Halo 3 campaign style game play. It's set on a planet that's a giant wasteland and offers 4 player coop with similarities in certain aspects. You get an "over shield" with little pieces of hardware you find or buy/upgrade in 1 of the 3 accessory slots. You will see these drop off of random mobs in the game or find them in these boxes as you go along. Again they are all different, unless of course you find the same one, in their own ways. Some recharge faster then the others, some have more shields then the others, some even when depleted will set off an AOE around you damaging enemies in the radius of the AOE. Again this offers tons of possibilities for different play styles. Example, I'm a soldier so I am usually right in the front lines in the middle of cross fire and I will take damage. Currently I am using a shield that has a very fast recharge rate. If I need it to recharge I have to hide or find cover and I don't want this thing taking its time while enemies are closing in on me. It suits my "Up in yo face, run and gun" play style with shooters very well and has satisfied my blood lust for carnage and mass killings hehe.

Even with all the guns in the game you even get grenades! And you guessed it! They are all different from each other! WHOO! You got MIRV grenades that blow up into more grenades, grenades that teleport, yes I said teleport to your enemy and blow up. Grenades that damage your enemy and HEAL you. Proximity grenades, grenades that bounce around until they make contact with the enemy ect... ect... Its a demolition mans version of heaven. To sum this section up...LOTS-O-THINGS that go BOOM in many different ways!

The whole second wind thing. Hmmm I like the idea, down but not out. However I would of loved to have seen them implement this in a different way. If you do happen to bleed out and die, you are simply respawned back at the way point and you run back and continue the slaughter. I would of loved to see them do this. Instead of just making it a "push on till we finally make it" they could have made it so, if you bleed out you have to wait until you are revived by a teammate. But if everyone dies then the team is respawned back at the last way point but all the mobs you killed ahead of that point, respawn and you have to try again. It would of added a higher sense of difficulty and made actual team work more vital to the game. Pretty much do what Left 4 Dead did and BEAT you into working as a team. So although its a good idea, it has serious potential to be better. The game is built well to offer missions or "jobs" so you do not get stuck grinding off mobs that are just roaming around. And when you receive a mission it scales with you. Zeek last night had a mission at 16 that I had at 18. The mobs there since it was his mission were 16-18. Mine when I did it were 18-20. Another note to touch on this since I am talking about mobs is that they do in fact respawn. If you take a little long completing the mission, when you are running back you usually have to face some of the mobs that were there in the beginning areas. Not a big deal but its annoying.

Diablo 2 looting. Gearbox might of well as lubed up a studded "toy" and stuck it where the catholic priests do....
I hate this style of looting, its annoying and if there is lag even though you KNOW you hit the button first the server says otherwise. This type of looting practically made the 4 player coop a trusted friends only game. Good luck getting the uber gear in a random 4 player game. As said above, play with friends and distribute accordingly to how you all like to do it.

Voice chat is implemented into the game, however it has one downside. Its voice activated and not push to talk. So if you have a sensitive mic or one of those who have something with a loud humming noise in your room, (ladies Smiley  rolleyes  cool ) that will activate the the mic or just people being obnoxiously loud in the background, get use to using your handy mute button a lot when you want to and don't want to talk.

Skills. This system was built really well. There are 3 different ways you can go for each class. Some more suited for team play then others but they built the game knowing not everyone likes coop play. So even if your style of play would be more suited for team play the game still remains possible to solo it just may take you longer to complete. Now I do not know what the level cap is even if there is one. I've browsed the on-line games and have seen someone at level 50 so far. So that actually lets you go partially into another skill tree with all the allocated points. If its possible to fill all 3 trees I do not know at this point. But going partially into another tree makes sense. You can even split it up between all three if you wanted to. It's all up to you and how you want to play.

That about does it for now. I will update this post for those of you who are considering the game if I think of more things or find out some new things. Speaking of those considering or those who have already got it. It would be cool to get a solid group of 4 or even more to play with each night or casually through the week. Let me know if you want to and when you are usually free. The game is fun with multiple people, its just better to play with people you know considering how loot works.

I've gone and made a small 3 minute borderlands video! One Saturday night I got into a game with Lud, he plays the Bruiser class. So we're cruising along in his pink my little pony mobile laying waste to everything in our path and a song comes on. It happens to be Dope - Die MF die. You should know what the M and F stand for. I couldn't get over the fact while sitting in the gun turret that I, a soldier class armed to the teeth in weapons and lud, a Bruiser who could compare to the Hulk were driving around in these waste lands in a pink car just destroying everything. So I went ahead and told the story to my boss who is as much into metal as I am and described this scene to her when that song came on. She burst out laughing just picturing me in a pink car all scarred up from battle and destroying everything in my path. She loved the whole My Little Pink Pony bit too while THIS particular song was playing. So I had to make a movie to better put it in visual for her.

So here it is! A 3 minute action packed and carnage carnage carnage film by yours truly. WARNING! The song has extreme explicit language. It should NOT be played at work and is most certainly NOT family friendly. The music is loud and has excessive use of the F word. That being said, I reccomend headphones and you now watch and listen at your own risk. If you turn the sound off...just be told that the music makes this video what it is.

So I picked this up when it was about $10.00 and it has been a lot of fun to play so far.    One of the awkward things to get used to though with this FPS is that even though your crosshairs are on a target your bullet may not actually land - weapons have a certain accuracy rate so that took some getting used to.   But, pound for pound this has been a fun game at least up to level 16 and am glad I bought it.
