I liked the first one, despite the campiness.
but if you take that original, mix in some 300, some God of War and what do you get?

dare I say - FTW?

This is a remake I can get behind. I'm very fond of the original movie, and what we think of as campy now was just good filmmaking back at the time. My only issue is Liam Neeson as Zeus. I love the actor, but Zeus was greek... having an Irish accent just doesn't work for me. I'm sure I can overlook it though.

after seeing this movie, a few things right out the gate.
don't watch the 3D version. the thing was filmed in 2D for a reason.
just because you can shine it up in 3D, doesn't mean that you should.
secondly, there's no camp factor here. the original played camp to a T.
this one, not so much. they do give Bubo a brief "ha ha" showing, but that's about it.

also, they cut out a LOT of the original. there ain't no riddles or weddings here.
it's all about, kill this guy and then go kill that guy. train to kill the other guy too.
so rather than add an hour, and develop the characters or even the plot some more, it's cut down to the basics.
well, the basic. that being MAN PWNS! and the Gods can be angry and stuff....but we PWN.
they could have done SO much more with the entire pantheon, but tailored this instead to be a God of War ripoff.

don't get me wrong. the eye candy is there. and it's shiny.
but it's not enough. you really want to like the movie, but it doesn't win you over.
there are some parts you'll go "I recognize that guy from a Bond movie." or "really? that's the extent of this..."
and then you'll realize that in about 2 years, there will be a sequel, and you'll have to debate it all over again.
in the end - it's worth a showing, but nothing to write home about. 7.15 smashies.

It was ok but nothing to write home about, a simple remake with nothing new added.   I could do better 3-D effects with shadow puppets.

Have to agree with Afterthought and Thunder. Its good but as they put it, nothing to write home about.

AT gave it a pretty fair rating.

Added nothing to the original.  God of War had better eye candy.  Waste of potential Sad

Went and saw this over the weekend and I'd say it is worth at least one watch.

The 3D effects were actually added in post production just to go with the new fad and add $4 to your movie experience.
