would I say the Sorcerer's Apprentice is a magical movie?
that depends. am I drunk? did I forget how to make a better pun? did I just wake up, demanding to be a sell out?
since I'm sober and still have some wit, I'll say this: it's a good movie, but not great.
it's good eye candy, but the plot has too many obvious cliches for my taste.

looking at it on the whole - the story is very well done and very easy to follow.
the acting is good, the comedy has enough good references to keep you entertained.
we learn that physics and magic aren't all that different, so physics people unite!

in this movie, you'll find there are no coincidences, but that's to be expected if you're paying attention.
the movie shows us that magic can be both good and bad, and when they fight, it's to the eyes delight.
the creatures used (wolves, dragons, a bull, etc) are just the tip of the CGI sword, and it's very good indeed.

some final thoughts/things to look for:
1) a fantasia scene to harken back your childhood
2) the magic is used very well and is very attention grabbing
3) in the end, this boils down to your basic "good vs evil" story involving love sacrifices
4) Nicholas Cage doesn't screw up and you get the Matrix 2/3 chick eventually
5) stay after the credits for an additional scene

overall - 8.636 smashies.

Nicolas Cage is teaching Mickey Mouse magic?  Sweet!
Though the trailers looks decent enough I think I'm going to pass on seeing this in theatres.

What's the point of wearing your favorite rocketship underpants if no one ever asks to see them?
