Pretty cool. I haven't checked up on the game. What distinction does the have over City of heroes besides name recognition?

a friend of mine has the beta and let me take it for a spin yesterday.
and this game takes the cake, eats it, lets you lick the spoon, and try out the frosting.
it's that good.
character creation could take you hours, or you could use a template of a DC character.
you could be a hero or villain, start out in Metropolis or Gotham.
you get the melee or ranged character, and I'm liking the ranged more myself.
the running is awesome, the flying is okay, the acrobat climbing is a blast.
when you beat a hero or villain, you go to a comic book cut scene movie - SO good.
and this is only in beta, but the controls are so easy you could pick it up today if you've played WoW and understand how a keyboard works.
this game will be so polished when it comes out, you have to get it.
whether or not you know comics, you really should get this game for the graphical goodies.
encounters to look for - Green Lantern/Sinestro war, saving Batwoman from the Scarecrow, saving Star Labs from Doctor Psycho.
this game could be epic, as long as they don't go backwards at some point before release.

Pre-ordered that moster and have been playing it since yesterday! It's wickedly awesome!
Character creation in no way can compare to City of heroes or Champions....definately not as involved or indepth.
But get this game.... Beats the hell out of WoW any day.

I was in the beta and leveled a couple of characters up to 10ish on the PvP test realm and it didn't really have the "grab" for me that really made we want to buy the game. I did all solo work and didn't do any vaults so maybe would have been different in a group.
Menus were a little cumbersome to get around in as well but that was just part of the l2play aspect.

Can't say I'm playing it (not a fan of DC comics in general, sorry) but a fun little aside:
Mat Broome is a senior Art Director for Sony Online and DCU was basically his baby (he served as Visual Director). He is an artist that drew comics such as X-Force, WildC.A.T.s, The End League, Defcon 4 and many others. He's pretty much worked at all the major comic houses.
Well, Mat has asked DSV to develop an iPad app that will change how people consume comics in the (near) mobile future. Pretty cool, eh?
