I got to see an early pre-screening of this and I must say it is probably one of the best movies themed on video games in a very, very long time. It's very comedic and the special "video game" effects are spectacular. Classic gamers will love the Universal introduction theme in the beginning more then the entire movie...I know I did..my friends agreed...Universal Studio intro rocked so hard.

If you've got the cash and want to see a funny movie that will bring out your inner nerd and old school gaming days. Go check this movie out.

Scott Pilgrim Vs The World: 9.4 Mongeese Bites.

Spoilers Incoming:

Scott Pilgrim vs the World is a comic book brought to life. If they had used all of the source material, this could have been a great ongoing TV series on MTV. Which is odd, because I hate MTV now that they forgot the "M" was for Music and not "Morons on reality shows" but I digress.

Scott is a bassist in a punk band from Toronto, who is dating an Asian highschooler. It sounds wrong, but it's not as sordid as it sounds. Because guess what? Scott literally meets the lady of his dreams who is an American, the daughter character from Die Hard 4. USA, USA! Scott breaks up with Knives and starts to date Ramona on the side. BOO! He gets his comeuppance though, because Ramona has Seven Evil Exes who are willing to kill Scott for Ramona.

The rest of the film details this relationship battle along with good ol' Battle of the Bands competitions. The fight scenes (and the entire film now that I think about it) use many homages back to your old NES days such as Zelda, Mario, Bad Dudes, and others. You could make a list watching the film and still miss some of them.

The film isn't all pop though, it shows the emotional scars we all get in relationships. aw so sad.
more fighting! more ex's!
If somebody knows a vegan, ask them if they have DBZ powers. when you see the movie, you'll understand.
more fighting! more band playing! more LESBIANS! more music turning into weapons and mythical creatures to fight each other! more funny jokes!

The band playing and fighting all culminate in a final showdown where you better bring a big knife to this sword fight. Or if you break your knife, know how to fight as a team. And not the team you might expect, again this IS a comic book brought to life. And it's really a good book too. Know that this is geared to us 20/30 somethings, so the reviewers who are 40+ can suck it when they say "I don't get it." no you don't Billy the Reviewer, no you don't; you also don't get the soundtrack which isn't too bad either. in the end - 9.23 smashies.
