It's getting blasted by the critics, fans and Duke First timers but the Mongoose is here to set the record straight!

DKF has been in the making now for 12 years. First by it's founder company 3d Realms and then by gearbox and 2k games. When it originally started it was slated to come out in 2001. The original trailer can be seen here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fdllz6QbR88&feature=related

2001 came and went and no Duke Nukem Forever. Come to find out 3D Realms CEO was obsessed with Duke Nukem and he wanted it to be perfect. The game had many engines including the DOOM 3 engine. Years went by and money ran out and 3D Realms went bankrupt right when they finally settled on an engine and actually completed at least 75% of the game. A Few lawsuits later and no more 3D Realms. Gear Box actually hired most of the 3D Realms team that worked on DKF and took on the project.

The biggest complaints about DKF is that the graphics are horrible and outdated and the game play is prehistoric. Yes, yes and yes to those accusations. BUT! This game is DUKE to the fullest! This game was built to be an old school first person shooter and it has stayed true to the roots that is Duke Nukem and your classic FPS. It has all the little bells and whistles that use to make us go ohhhhhhh and AHHHHHHHH during the PS1 and N64 days. You can roam around, pee in toilets, drink from fountains, pick up and throw things and run out of bubble gum then kick some ass!

Is it glamorous, No. Is it worthy of a title FOREVER, No. Does it have all the game play elements that all of your new shooters have today, No. But it is DUKE. It will strike a Nostalgic nerve and you WILL have a blast playing it. It will bring you back and keep you there and it's not like it's a huge eye soar. After 12 years of development I was expecting something amazingly remarkable just like everyone else was. But it was made to be a classic shooter and that's what it is, just like they were making it 12 years ago. It's only getting bashed because it doesn't stand a chance against all these other high tech shooters out there today. And the kids who never even played the original floppy disk IBM version or the 64/PS1 version will bash it just because they came into the gaming world with all the new high tech gear and never knew what it was like playing old school games. So of course they will bash it.

The mongoose gives this game a solid 7.0 Mongeese bites.

It stays true to the roots of Duke, it's classic game play and yeah the graphics are poor but it looks like a slightly Vamped up DOOM 3 or one of the first Xbox 360 games made for launch. It's not that bad.

P.S. Ladies if you are easily offended by Super-Mega-Ultra Male Ego, avoid this game. Guys you will see plenty of boobs, lesbians, lude, rude, dirty comments and lots of skimpy dresses, if you could call them that and yes Female Nudity.

IMO. I'd wait for the price drop to $30. If you were lucky enough to be browsing steams summer sales yesterday you could of gotten it for 50% off at $24.99

There appears to be an overwhelming number of gamers setting themselves up for disappointment with unrealistic expectations for a game plagued with development and publishing problems that potentiallty was never going to be released.  Any gamer that's been anticipating this game's release would know this.  I picked it up from Steam for 25$ when they had their 10 day summer sale of 50-75% off.

This game is awful. No enjoyment whatsoever. I completely agree with the majority of critics out there saying that the only people who would enjoy this game are 16 year old boys and people with very low brow senses of humor.

Did you play Duke Nukem, Duke Nukem 2 or Duke Nukem 3D when they were released?  It's in the same spirit.  This really is a game for older gamers.  The newer gamers and critics just aren't going to get it with there being a 15 year gap.

Everything Kindred just said. If you never played the old ones then of course, like I said in my review, your view point will almost be biased in a negative factor towards the game.

The game plays like a shooter from the 90's and is built like it was originally supposed to be released in 2001. The one liners are corny but that's Duke and I find them amusing just because that was funny back in the day.

The thing is, I played the old ones years and years ago and I loved them. I guess my tastes have just evolved or changed. I wouldnt find Duke Nukem 3D or any of the other old ones very fun anymore, more of just a memento of years long gone. In my opinion, they could easily have made a much much better game that still kept the spirit of Duke Nukem alive, yet added something to the genre.  Instead they exaggerated the humor, going a bit overkill to the point where i didnt find it very funny after 5 minutes of playing. Maybe im an oddball for not liking it but ah well.

Nothing odd about it but it was pretty much done when 3d realms was sued by their publisher. Gear Box just picked up where they left off. The game was made and built to be released in 2001. So they kept everything the same. Guess their own little homage. My tastes have evolved but I appreciate the game for what it is and the classics that we will rarely see anymore these days. It's like that 10 year high school reunion.
