No, actually you hit the exact mark where I am. I inflated the issue a bit, as I admitted, I'm just doing a poor job of hitting home the point I'm trying to make.

Don't think of science in the measurable sense. I'm aiming at, say, the theory of evolution. I happen to believe in it, but it still, after all of this time, can't be proven to be any more accurate or factual than intelligent design. There is a lot there to suggest it is correct, but that's not incontestable. It's still a theory. We're still searching for that "missing link". Who is to say, with absolute certainty and fact, that the missing link isn't intelligent design?

That's the grey area I'm talking about. NO one in their right mind would contest the data measure at the moment of the proton accurate to X digits. The method dictates that the measurement would be taken multiple times and then averaged, meaned, etc. Margin for error is an admitted and accepted grey area. It's not the same as saying we are definitely descendants of the chimpanzee. Lots in common, including DNA, but not enough to definitively say it's true.

Yes, you're saying some science is like religion, that you can't prove things to an absolute certainty.  Sure, but I think the other side is saying religion is all faith based, and you tried saying science is "no more exact than religion".  With your clarification, can we all agree that while some science is not exact, there is a TON of science that is?

Points painted with such broad strokes are provoking clarification/debate from the other side.  All religion is not bad.  All atheists are not just as bad.  (I think Vanish was trying to do that, at least in part, to prove a point...clarify if I'm off base.)  So, tighten up those points, people  Just try to remember all of these points on human behaviour are on a spectrum, not a "one or the other" issue.

Correct. I still stand by the Theory of Evolution is based as much on supposition (scientific faith) as religion is based on faith. I think the only real answer is, we don't freaking know. It's a question that has plagued mankind since it's dawn and probably will into infinity.

All that aside, I don't think anyone can say that religious fanatics are doing any more to harm our country or it's politics than any other group of special interests are, including atheists, the entitled, and the apathetic.
